In this Terra.do x Solutions Journalism Network Series, hear from a panel of experts implementing climate solutions in the Global South.


This particular webinar will focus on the co-benefits of implementing climate solutions, such as health gains from lower air pollution; jobs in new “green” industries; increased and protected biodiversity; economic resilience from local food and energy production; sustainable forests, food, and farming; and enhancing gender equity and social justice can all be advanced through climate solutions.


Leveraging these co-benefits can lead to faster action on climate solutions, deliver more cost effective solutions, and advance justice.


Moderator:

Hugo Balta is the Publisher of the Latino News Network and Director of Solutions Journalism & DEI Initiatives at The Fulcrum. An award-winning journalist and twice President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, he also teaches journalism at Columbia College Chicago.


Speakers:

Gargi Sharma is the Communications & Development Manager at the CLIMA Fund and a human rights activist dedicated to decolonizing the social justice movement. She has a background in law, feminist and environmental advocacy, and was a researcher in data governance at Tilburg University. Gargi lives in Haarlem, enjoying the city’s museums and biking through North Holland.


Tarun Jami is the Founder of GreenJams, an award-winning cleantech company making carbon-negative building materials from crop residues and industrial by-products. He oversees product development and technical operations at GreenJams and is an INK Fellow and Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree. Tarun has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering and environmental sciences and is pursuing a PhD in civil engineering from CSIR-Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee, and RMIT University, Melbourne.


Anu Jogesh’s PhD research explores physical climate risks to socio-economically vulnerable borrowers in India, examining their implications for financial institutions involved in priority sector lending and financial regulation. Her work sits at the intersection of domestic finance, community vulnerability, and climate adaptation in South Asia. With over seven years at Acclimatise and experience at the Centre for Policy Research, she has expertise in climate resilience and sub-national climate planning. Anu holds an MSc from the University of Oxford and a Master’s in Mass Communication, and is a Chevening Scholar and US Department of State International Visitor Leadership Programme fellow.
